Watch: Baasil Saunders of Imhotep Charter wins City of Palms Classic slam dunk contest

Philadelphia senior edged out John Gamble of Charlotte by 0.5 points in the final round.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Baasil Saunders of No. 4 Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia) won the City of Palms Classic slam dunk contest after earning combined scores of 97 out of 100 for his first two dunks and a combined score of 93.5 out of 100 in the championship round to edge out John Gamble of Charlotte (Punta Gorda, Fla.), who received a score of 93.0 in his final round.

For his two dunks in the championship round, Saunders dunked over his teammate – five-star Kentucky signee Justin Edwards – for scores of 44 out of 50 and 49.5 out of 50.

Gamble threw down his first dunk of the final round from a pass off the side of the backboard from a teammate before dunking over the City of Palms Classic executive director Mary Schaack for his final dunk of the night.

To earn his spot in the final round, Saunders received a score of 49 out of 50 on his first dunk of the night after dunking over a pair of teammates before receiving a score of 48 out of 50 after throwing down a 360 slam.

Gamble threw down an emphatic windmill slam for a score of 47 out of 50 on his first dunk and for his second dunk he threw down another windmill slam from a pass that came off the backboard from his teammate to earn a score of 49 out of 50.




Duke commit Darren Harris of Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) won the 3-point contest earlier in the night.
