Baseball Recap: Milford Buccaneers vs. William Penn Colonials
Milford dropped to 7-12 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 10-0 to the William Penn Colonials. The shutout was out of character for the Buccaneers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
As for William Penn, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
For William Penn's part, Jaedin Maichle made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Maichle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. William Penn is undefeated when Maichle posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Anthony Cheyney and Michael Baker did most of the damage at the plate: Cheyney went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Baker went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. That double was Cheyney's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Justin Weidner, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Coming up, William Penn will face off against Hodgson Vo-Tech at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Milford will be paying especially close attention to the Colonials' contest: after the Colonials face off against the Eagles, they'll take on Milford again at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
