It was a good run, but Mt. Carmel unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Saturday. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was the Scripps Ranch Falcons who were credited with the win. The Scripps Ranch Falcons got it done in the shootout by posting five goals to the Mt. Carmel Sundevils' three. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Sundevils came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Falcons are ranked 252nd).

Mt. Carmel's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2. As for Scripps Ranch, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2-2.

Mt. Carmel will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rancho Bernardo at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Scripps Ranch also won't see the pitch for a while: their next contest is against Steele Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
