Softball Recap: Polytechnic Wins Going Away Against Mayfield

Polytechnic barely beat Mayfield the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers never let the Cubs get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Tuesday. That 16-run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.

Dannika Rivera and Amelia Shih made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Rivera tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Shih tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rivera went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Shih went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Eila Chan was incredible, firing off four doubles, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Ellery Engstrom was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and one RBI.

Polytechnic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Polytechnic pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Mayfield, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Polytechnic will welcome Harvard-Westlake at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mayfield, they will host Westridge at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
