Alabama high school football rankings: Hoover jumps to No. 1 after comeback win over No. 4 Hewitt-Trussville

Buccaneers fight back from 12-point, second-half deficit to pull out 29-28 win; Hillcrest jumps 22 spots to No. 17.

Hoover jumped over Thompson as the new No. 1 team in this week's MaxPreps Alabama Top 25 high school football computer rankings. The Buccaneers improved to 7-0 with a thrilling 29-28 win over Hewitt-Trussville last week thanks to two touchdown runs by Jaylen Taylor, the second in the fourth quarter to put his team in front.

According to al.com, Taylor filled in for injured Dylan Pauley and rushed for 138 yards on 18 carries. A blocked field goal in the final three minutes secured the victory over Hewitt-Trussville, which got 167 yards rushing on 20 carries and a touchdown from Auburn-bound Armoni Goodwin. Teammate Sean Jackson added 102 yards rushing and fourth-ranked Hewitt (5-2) finished with 441 yards of offense.

Hoover, which fought back from a 28-16 deficit, finished with 422 total yards (220 passing, 202 rushing).

Second-ranked Thompson fell from the top spot despite a 38-9 win over Vestavia Hills.



Other teams to enter the rankings this week was No. 17 Hillcrest (Tuscaloosa), which moved up a whopping 22 spots, No. 22 Vestavia Hills and No. 25 Sparkman (Harvest).
