Baseball Recap: Wickliffe Comes Up Short

Northwestern hit Wickliffe with a six-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies.

Frankie Bucar was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Wickliffe is 3-1 when Bucar allows one or fewer earned runs, but 8-13 otherwise. Bucar was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Bucar wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Max Andrasak, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Wickliffe's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Northwestern, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-16.

As of now, neither Wickliffe nor the Huskies have any future games scheduled.
