Baseball Game Preview: Sumter County Panthers vs. Dougherty Trojans

Sumter County and Dougherty are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Sumter County Panthers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Dougherty Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Sumter County didn't have quite enough to beat Monroe and fell 7-6. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ter'Kaevian Rush and Jordan Minter stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rush scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Minter went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The dominant performance also gave Rush a new career-high in hits (three).

Meanwhile, Dougherty gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They blew past Sumter County 20-3. The Trojans have beaten the Panthers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.

Dougherty got a massive performance out of Camarien Wimberly, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Braylen Still was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2.

Dougherty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .815. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .529 that Sumter County posted.
