Football Recap: Troy Takes a Loss

Troy came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were dealt a 68-27 defeat at the hands of the Franklin Lions. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost nine in a row.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hunter Fryman, who threw for 174 yards and three TDs, and also punched in one rushing score. Troy's leading receiver Brock Sebesta was Fryman's top target yet again, picking up 50 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Even if they lost, Troy's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Mason Barnett, Bryson Williams, and Johnavion Dees, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Troy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Franklin, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Troy will square off against C.H. Yoe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Jayden Lucky and De'Marques Lopez-Pinchback. As for Franklin, they will challenge Little River Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bumblebees will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
