Softball Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. York Dukes
Lexington is 1-7 against York since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Minutemen will venture away from home to square off against the Dukes at 6:30 p.m. Lexington has given up an average of 14.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lexington fell victim to Alliance and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 13-0 to the Bulldogs. Surprisingly, this marked the Minutemen's fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Meanwhile, York made easy work of Polk County on Thursday and carried off a 13-3 win. The Dukes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Andi Winterrowd was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Ayanna Miller was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Polk County only managed four.
York has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. As for Lexington, their loss dropped their record down to 1-20.
Lexington might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from York when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Minutemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
