Football Game Preview: Alief Taylor Lions vs. Strake Jesuit Fighting Crusaders

Two dominant backs in Hameer Shokunle and John Hebert are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Alief Taylor Lions will square off against the Strake Jesuit Fighting Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Alief Taylor is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 34 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Foster on Friday. They lost to the Falcons at home by a 24-6 margin. The matchup marked the Lions' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Strake Jesuit came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 42-38 W against the Chargers. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Fighting Crusaders were the better team in the second half.

Strake Jesuit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Luke Leone and Harrison Socha. Leone has been hot recently, having posted at least one interception the last three times he's played.

Alief Taylor now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Strake Jesuit, their record is now 5-2.

Alief Taylor might still be hurting after the 54-29 defeat they got from Strake Jesuit in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hebert, who rushed for 292 yards and two TDs while picking up 12.2 yards per carry, and also caught one score.
