Football Recap: Cathedral Takes a Loss

Cathedral came into this matchup off a tough 28-point defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Simi Valley Pioneers by a score of 56-54 on Friday. The Phantoms' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Despite the loss, Cathedral still got an impressive performance from Jaden Jefferson, who threw for 412 yards and five touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 64 yards and a pair of scores. With that strong performance, Jefferson is now averaging an impressive 304 passing yards per game. Quentin Hale was in the mix too, providing Cathedral with two TDs.

Simi Valley found their leader in sophomore Salvador E Villa, who rushed for 155 yards and six scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also picked up 47 receiving yards. E Villa also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Zane Tryon also helped out as he racked up 179 rushing yards.

Cathedral's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Simi Valley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Coming up, Cathedral will venture away from home to square off against Chaminade at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Simi Valley, they will welcome Thousand Oaks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' defense has only allowed 13.2 points per game this season, so the Pioneers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
