Simpson Academy faced Laurel Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Cougars blew past the Lions 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Simpson Academy pushed their record up to 22-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Laurel Christian, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Simpson Academy is set to square off against their familiar foe Madison-Ridgeland Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Laurel Christian will take on rival Wayne Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
