Basketball Recap: Oroville Takes a Loss

Oroville suffered their biggest defeat since December 19, 2024 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by the Las Plumas Thunderbirds and fell 57-30. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Oroville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gianna Brown, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Serenity Miller, who posted nine points and four steals. That was a full 50% of Oroville's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Oroville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Las Plumas only pulled down seven offensive boards.

Las Plumas found their leader in sophomore Liliana Carrillo, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 17 points and six assists. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Carrillo. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Olivares, who had 11 points.

Oroville's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Las Plumas, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Oroville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-34 victory against Live Oak on the 23rd. Las Plumas has also already played their next game, a 37-22 win against Corning on the 24th.
