Basketball Recap: Chico Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Chico can now relate to. They were beaten by the Immanuel Eagles 78-37 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered since December 10, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Chico lost, don't look at Josie Carlos. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points and seven steals. Carlos is becoming a predictor of Chico's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 9-4 (and 8-10 when she doesn't).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Immanuel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ainsley Jackson, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 13 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Jackson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kiera Thomas, who had 11 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Chico's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-14. As for Immanuel, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 29-5.

Chico does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Immanuel, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 48-43 loss against Justin-Siena on the 8th.
