Baseball Recap: Onalaska Hilltoppers vs. Altoona Railroaders

Onalaska won against Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Tuesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Hilltoppers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Altoona Railroaders 8-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hilltoppers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.

Cooper Rudie was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Carter DeLong, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Onalaska hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Onalaska has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Altoona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-8.

The Hilltoppers (ranked 119th) will meet Prairie du Chien (ranked 319th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Altoona will challenge West Salem at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (95 vs. 301).
