Baseball Recap: Frankfort Gets the Win

Frankfort never let their opponents score on Friday. They came out on top against the Benton Rangers by a score of 5-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-0 two weeks ago.

The result came thanks to Hunter Gaither's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Frankfort is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chris Samples, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Chace Patterson, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

The win got Frankfort back to even at 9-9. As for Benton, they dropped their record down to 8-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Frankfort will square off against Carterville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Redbirds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Benton, they will challenge Murphysboro at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
