The Lutheran Lions will square off against the Erie Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lutheran comes in on seven and Erie on four.
If Lutheran beats Erie with 12 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Lions put the hurt on Discovery Canyon with a sharp 12-2 victory on Wednesday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by eight runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Sophia Reed, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Addie Brightman, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Lutheran hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery Canyon struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Erie beat Horizon 15-11 on Wednesday.
Erie got a massive performance out of Natalie Fetters, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Fetters a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyanna Reeves, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Erie, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 15-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lutheran has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Erie struggles in that department as they've averaged .501. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lutheran took their win against Erie in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
