Basketball Game Preview: La Salle Lancers vs. Bishop Montgomery Knights

The La Salle Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Bishop Montgomery Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

La Salle took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against St. Mary's Academy by a score of 56-45. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Belles are ranked 178th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Casey Higgins, who went 7 for 9 on her way to 16 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. That's the most assists she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aislin Tamez Torres, who posted nine points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Montgomery). They blew past St. Anthony 79-53 on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Knights sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Bishop Montgomery's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for La Salle, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which somehow still isn't as good as their 19-5 record this season.

La Salle couldn't quite finish off Bishop Montgomery in their previous matchup last Monday and fell 44-41. Can La Salle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
