Baseball Recap: Gatewood Has No Trouble Against Southwest Georgia Academy

Gatewood extended their postseason success on Thursday against Southwest Georgia Academy. They blew past the Warriors 8-1. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Wilson Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on zero hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Walker Roberts was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Ames Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Gatewood lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matches.

Gatewood pushed their record up to 25-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest Georgia Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 25-4.

Gatewood will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Warriors: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
