Basketball Game Preview: River Valley Panthers vs. Gateway Gators

The River Valley Panthers will take on the Gateway Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. River Valley will be strutting in after a win while Gateway will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when River Valley faced off against Homer-Center on Wednesday. The Panthers snuck past the Wildcats with a 45-40 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

River Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddie Twinchek out in front who went 6-for-11 en route to 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Twinchek is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maren Dunlap, who shot 83% from the field on her way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

River Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Gateway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. The matchup between the Gators and Penn Hills didn't end well, with the Gators falling 32-14. The contest marked the Gators' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Gateway's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for River Valley, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
