Basketball Recap: Buena Park Takes a Loss

If Buena Park was feeling good fresh off their 76-43 takedown of Varsity Opponent last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Buena Park Coyotes were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 55-54 to the Mark Keppel Aztecs.

Buena Park's loss came despite strong showings from Mya Barnes and Gloria Barrera. Barnes dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards, while Barrera dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Barrera's afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Ava Wiley was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Buena Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Buena Park's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Mark Keppel, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7.

Buena Park will host Marlborough at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mark Keppel, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Carson at 8:00 p.m. on December 26th.
