Soccer Game Preview: St. Pius X Catholic vs. Decatur

The St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Decatur Bulldogs at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. St. Pius X Catholic's defense has only allowed 0.5 goals per game this season, so Decatur's offense will have their work cut out for them.

St. Pius X Catholic is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Marist just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the War Eagles by a score of 1-0. Considering the last time St. Pius X Catholic couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs last Thursday. Decatur put the hurt on Tri-Cities with a sharp 5-1 victory. Considering Decatur has won five matchups by more than three goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting Tri-Cities from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal.

Decatur is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those seven games. As for St. Pius X Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

St. Pius X Catholic came up short against Decatur in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 2-0. Can the Golden Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
