Basketball Recap: Derry Comes Up Short

Derry played a tough match on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Geibel Catholic Gators 58-28. The Trojans lost against the Gators in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 42-39 score last time.

Geibel Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mallory Clemmer, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Clemmer's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Emma Larkin was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine boards.

Derry's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Geibel Catholic, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Derry will welcome Freeport at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Geibel Catholic, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ligonier Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Geibel Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.8 points per game this season.
