Basketball Recap: Anaya Mcglory Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat El Camino

It was a proper cat-fight when Escondido duked it out with El Camino on Wednesday. The Cougars snuck past the Wildcats with a 45-39 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 254th, while the Wildcats are ranked 588th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Escondido's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anaya McGlory, who posted 22 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Naomi Gutierrez, who had seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals.

El Camino's loss came despite strong showings from Maleiah Jones and Vanessa McFerran. Jones scored 13 points, while McFerran earned 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalani Hadnot, who put up six points and nine boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Escondido and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for El Camino, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Escondido wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 39-25 win against San Dieguito Academy on the 5th. As for El Camino, they have also already played their next game, a 55-50 defeat against Valley Center on the 5th.
