Softball Recap: Niwot Cougars vs. Grand Junction Central Warriors
Niwot extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 6-11. They lost 18-6 to the Grand Junction Central Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 18-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.
Niwot saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Halverson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
As for Grand Junction Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Grand Junction Central's side, Caitlin Raisch was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Raisch has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August.
In other batting news, Emma Grabau and Raygan Ball did most of the damage at the plate: Grabau went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Ball went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Ball has posted since back in August of 2024. Baylee DeWitt was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
Niwot didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-9 loss against Palisade on the 27th. As for Grand Junction Central, they have also already played their next matchup, an 18-5 victory against Rampart on the 27th.
