Baseball Recap: Washington-Wilkes Sets Scoring Season-High Against Greene County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington-Wilkes). They put the hurt on Greene County with a sharp 21-0 victory on Tuesday. Washington-Wilkes hasn't had any issues with Greene County recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Andrew Harkins and Wesley Standard made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Harkins pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Standard tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Harkins is becoming a predictor of Washington-Wilkes' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 7-18 when he doesn't). At bat, Harkins went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Standard got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Standard a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jordan Dawson was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Lamar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.

Washington-Wilkes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Washington-Wilkes' record is now 9-19. As for Greene County, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Washington-Wilkes beat Greene County by a score of 15-0 later that day.
