High school football: Top-rated tight end Jaleel Skinner transfers to IMG Academy

Defending MaxPreps National Champs add four-star playmaker to already potent offense.

IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), the No. 2 high school football team in the preseason MaxPreps Top 25 added another weapon to its already impressive arsenal Monday. Jaleel Skinner, the top-rated tight end from the Class of 2022, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, announced he's transferring from Greer (S.C.) to play his senior season for the Ascenders.

The 6-foot-5 210-pound topped our Top 10 tight ends list and becomes the seventh top 100 player on the 247Sports composite rankings to player for the 2020 MaxPreps National Champions.

Skinner joins a potent offense that features four-star quarterback AJ Duffy (Florida State commit), four-star running back Kaytron Allen (Penn State commit), five-star athlete Samuel M'Pemba, four-star wide receiver Carnell Tate, four-star wide receiver Devin Hyatt, three-star wide receiver Shawn Miller (Illinois commit) and Class of 2024 standout Stacy Gage.

The IMG skill players should shine behind an offensive line stacks up with anyone in the country. The trenches are led by Alabama-bound tackle Tyler Booker, five-star Francis Mauigoa, four-star Aliou Bah (Florida State commit), four-star Knijeah Harris, three-star Dylan Lopez (Oregon State commit) and three-star Ethan Lang (East Carolina commit).



Additionally, the Ascenders are loaded defensively, led by five-star safety Kamari Wilson, four-star athlete Keon Sabb (Clemson commit), four-star cornerback Daylen Everette (Clemson commit), five-star linebacker Malik Bryant, five-star athlete Joenel Aguero, four-star edge rusher Jihaad Campbell (Clemson commit), four-star defensive lineman Dominick James, four-star defensive end Cameron Lenhardt and four-star linebacker Jordan Hall.

A full schedule hasn't yet been released for new head coach Pepper Johnson's bunch, but IMG's docket includes notable games at No. 72 La Salle (Cincinnati) on Sept. 3, vs. No. 38 Northwestern (Miami) on Sept. 10., vs. No. 68 Jones (Orlando) on Sept. 17, vs. No. 69 East St. Louis (Ill.) on Oct. 22, and vs. No. 10 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) on Nov. 19.

IMG Academy finished 8-0 last season as the No. 1 team in the country, the first in school history, and with the talent its compiling should be on a sort list of teams able to compete for that top spot again.
