Downey has gone 10-0 against Gahr recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Downey Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Gahr Gladiators at 5:15 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Downey is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Paramount on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Downey lost 61-40 to Paramount. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite their defeat, Downey saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Samira Padilla, who posted nine points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Gomez, who had seven points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Gahr suffered their biggest loss since December 10, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Lynwood, falling 56-34. While losing is never fun, the Gladiators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while the Knights are ranked 119th).

Gahr's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Downey, they now have a losing record at 10-11.

Downey took their win against Gahr in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 60-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Downey since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
