Basketball Recap: Verdugo Hills Finds Playoff Glory Versus Marshall

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Verdugo Hills had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Marshall Barristers with a sharp 57-32 victory. The Dons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Leading Verdugo Hills to victory were Rayleen Castanos and Amiyya Castanos. Rayleen posted nine points and eight steals, while Amiyya scored 17 points and six steals. Amiyya is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nicole Olivera, who put up eight points.

Verdugo Hills' win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points over those games. As for Marshall, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-12.

Looking ahead, Verdugo Hills will face off against Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Verdugo Hills surely won't give up without a fight. Marshall does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
