Preview: Helix Highlanders vs. Otay Ranch Mustangs

The Helix Highlanders will be playing at home against the Otay Ranch Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Otay Ranch took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Helix, who comes in off a win.

Helix scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 89-64 margin over Mount Miguel. Helix has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 22 points or more this season.

Jordyn McMillan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Valerie Marquez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Otay Ranch took a serious blow against Victory Christian Academy on Wednesday, falling 61-27. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Otay Ranch has scored all season.

Mackenzie Daffron put forth a good effort for the losing side as she almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played.

The win made it two in a row for Helix and bumps their season record up to 18-7. As for Otay Ranch, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Helix have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Otay Ranch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Helix skirted past Otay Ranch 43-40 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Otay Ranch's Mia Maglalang, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Helix to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
