Basketball Recap: El Diamante Piles Up the Points Against Mt. Whitney

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Immanuel, El Diamante was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mt. Whitney Pioneers 65-17. Given the Miners' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Pioneers are ranked 679th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

El Diamante got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rian Jones-Dillihunt out in front who posted 18 points and seven boards. Jones-Dillihunt is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Angelina Morales, who scored seven points along with ten steals and five assists.

El Diamante was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

El Diamante has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points over those games. As for Mt. Whitney, they dropped their record down to 10-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

El Diamante wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 59-36 win against Porterville on the 31st. As for Mt. Whitney, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-23 loss against Monache on the 31st.
