Football Recap: Acalanes Skates Past Mt. Diablo with Ease

Acalanes got themselves on the board against Mt. Diablo on Friday, but Mt. Diablo never followed suit. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 56-0 win over the Red Devils. That 56 point margin sets a new team best for the Dons this season.

Acalanes got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Josh Elerts out in front who rushed for 171 yards and three scores on only 14 carries. With that strong performance, Elerts is now averaging an impressive 111.8 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Winkles, who threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Acalanes was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Acalanes' defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Elerts, Deonte Littlejohn, and Bryce Birdsong, who each picked up one sack apiece.

The win keeps Acalanes at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.4 points on average this season. As for Mt. Diablo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Acalanes will face off against Benicia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Mt. Diablo, they will take on McClymonds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
