Football Recap: Arkansas City Takes a Loss

Arkansas City extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They fell 44-35 to the Goddard Lions. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Lions are ranked 47th).

As for Goddard, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.3 points over those games.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Erik Olivas and Joseph Diekemper. Olivas rushed for 187 yards and one score while picking up 11.7 yards per carry while Diekemper gained 90 total yards and four touchdowns. Olivas is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 114 every time he's taken the field this season. Bryer Rojas got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Arkansas City is set to square off against their familiar foe Newton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Goddard will face off against rival Salina Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Olivas and Cooper Reves.
