Basketball Recap: Center Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

If Mira Loma wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Center, they should've done a better job of containing Kailee Coggins. The Center Cougars took their matchup on Wednesday with ease, bagging a 66-6 victory over the Mira Loma Matadors thanks in part to Coggins, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Reniaya Applin was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. She has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last eight times she's played.

Center's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-17. As for Mira Loma, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-15.

Center and Mira Loma could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Center (ranked 1027th) will meet Lincoln (ranked 340th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Mira Loma will challenge Oakmont at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 572 places (1135 vs. 563).
