Football Recap: Thoreau Skates Past Wingate with Ease

Thoreau put their dominant defense on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. They blew past the Wingate Bears 48-0. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won seven matchups by 25 points or more so far this season.

Irvin Tom had a dynamite game, rushing for 65 yards and one TD on only eight carries, while also picking up 30 receiving yards and one touchdown. Aiden Woody was another key player, throwing for 160 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Thoreau was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 295 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Thoreau didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Trevin Jim and Keyshaun Joe. Jordan Calladitto was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making nine total tackles.

Thoreau's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.3 points over those games. As for Wingate, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Thoreau will challenge Crownpoint at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.44 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Wingate does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
