Softball Recap: Hazelwood East Has No Trouble Against Normandy

Hazelwood East's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Normandy Vikings with a sharp 15-2 victory. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Aja Wallace made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Wallace was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Jamarre Thomas was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Turner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Hazelwood East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Normandy only posted a batting average of .231.

Hazelwood East's record now sits at 3-7. As for Normandy, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Hazelwood East will face off against Riverview Gardens at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.29 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Normandy, they will challenge University City at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
