Basketball Recap: Irvington Comes Up Short

Irvington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 44-26 bruising from the American Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 872nd, while the Eagles are ranked 173rd).

American found their leader in sophomore Shirina Shi, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. The matchup was Shi's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leann Wang, who posted eight points and 15 rebounds.

Irvington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for American, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Irvington has already played their next game (against Kennedy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. American has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Newark Memorial.
