Recap: Calexico vs. Brawley

The Calexico Bulldogs have not lost a match since January 16th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Brawley a 1-0 shutout. Given Calexico's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 398th, while Brawley is ranked 870th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Calexico's one-goal win came courtesy of Garcia Arellana, who's now up to 24 this season.

Calexico pushed their record up to 21-5-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four contests. As for Brawley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14-4 record this season.

Calexico does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brawley, they will be playing at home against Chula Vista at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Brawley's last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
