Volleyball Recap: Churubusco Eagles vs. Garrett Railroaders
Churubusco was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garrett Railroaders. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Railroaders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Churubusco started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18.
Kelsee Coil paced Churubusco's offense, picking up 20 kills. Coil got some help from Mckayla Reuter and her 33 assists. Reuter was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.
Garrett found their leader in freshman Kaylee Gaar, who had 18 digs and two aces. Gaar is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season.
Churubusco's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Garrett, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Churubusco wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against East Noble on the 23rd. As for Garrett, they will be playing at home against Columbia City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
