Baseball Game Preview: Medina Bees vs. Highland Hornets

The Medina Bees will venture away from home to face off against the Highland Hornets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Medina's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Highland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Medina was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against North Ridgeville on Wednesday. The Bees never let the Rangers get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. Considering the Bees have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Highland ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Roosevelt 7-6. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Highland got a great performance from Reid Oney as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Oney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Casey Myser was incredible, firing off two home runs, two stolen bases, and three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Logan Spaite also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Medina has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Highland, their record is now 16-3-1.

Medina couldn't quite get it done against Highland in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 4-1. Can the Bees avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
