Basketball Recap: Eastlake Comes Up Short

Eastlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots. The Titans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pilots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Eastlake saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ari Ruperto dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Ruperto is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. Thea Joanne Manabat was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Eastlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. This was only their 13th loss (out of 17 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Eastlake's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-18.

Eastlake will host Chula Vista at 6:30 p.m. on January 29th. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 46-25 loss against Hoover on the 24th.
