Basketball Recap: Mt. Whitney Pioneers vs. Monache Marauders
Mt. Whitney lost against Monache back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mt. Whitney Pioneers were dealt a 62-23 defeat at the hands of the Monache Marauders. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kaylie Mares was Mt. Whitney's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Carmen Jimemez held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Monache got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kyah Bartlett out in front who went 6 of 10 on her way to 14 points along with eight assists and four steals. What's more, Bartlett also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in February of 2024. Shelley Andrade was another key player, going 7 for 11 en route to 14 points in addition to six boards and four steals.
Mt. Whitney's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Monache, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.
Mt. Whitney didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-26 defeat against Porterville on the 4th. As for Monache, they have also already played their next contest, a 79-14 win against Golden West on the 4th.
