Basketball Recap: Masterman Takes a Loss

Masterman lost against Audenried back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Masterman took a blow against Audenried, falling 62-27. While losing is never fun, Masterman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while Audenried is ranked 14th).

When it comes to explaining why Masterman lost, don't look at Jocelyn Goldstein. Despite the final result, she posted 21 points.

Shayla Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Audenried, going 14 for 20 en route to 31 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Smith's afternoon made it 13 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Nasiaah Russell was another key player, putting up six points in addition to eight boards and four blocks.

Masterman has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Audenried, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.

Masterman has already played their next matchup, a 62-25 win against The City School on the 17th. As for Audenried, they will square off against Mary Louis Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Audenried knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 contests -- so hopefully Mary Louis Academy likes a good challenge.
