Baseball Recap: Hamtramck Comes Up Short

Hamtramck extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-8. They lost 16-8 to the Center Line Panthers. The Cosmos were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2019.

As for Center Line, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-18. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Center Line's part, Hunter Hughes was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Hughes has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Matthew Fizia was incredible, going 1-for-4 with six stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Cameron Creech was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Coming up, Hamtramck will take on Madison at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cosmos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season. As for Center Line, they will welcome Fitzgerald at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
