Basketball Game Preview: Catalina Foothills Falcons vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers

Catalina Foothills is 0-10 against Salpointe Catholic since January of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Catalina Foothills Falcons will host the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Catalina Foothills beat Rincon/University 47-39. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.

Catalina Foothills had a senior duo take command as Clara Mae Hager posted 19 points along with seven steals and five assists and Mercy Martinez dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Those seven steals gave Hager a new career-high. Ally Rosas was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Catalina Foothills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Punahou. Salpointe Catholic strolled past Punahou with points to spare, taking the game 48-34.

Salpointe Catholic's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for Catalina Foothills, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.

Catalina Foothills was dealt a bruising 70-24 loss at the hands of Salpointe Catholic when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Catalina Foothills was down 33-12.
