Basketball Game Preview: Huss Huskies vs. Covenant Day Lions

Having just played yesterday, the Huss Huskies will jump right back in to play the Covenant Day Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

If Huss beats Covenant Day with 71 points on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Huskies managed a 71-66 victory over Charlotte Latin on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.

Huss' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips, who went 8-for-17 en route to 28 points along with seven boards and five assists, and Jaleel Smith, who almost dropped a triple-double with 21 points, ten rebounds, and nine steals. The game was Smith's eighth in a row with at least 18 points. Joseph Walker was another key player, putting up nine points.

Huss smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Covenant Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 63-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marvin Ridge. While the Lions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mavericks 18-12 in the first quarter.

Covenant Day's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Huss, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
