Baseball Recap: Cape Elizabeth Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Cape Elizabeth ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Poland Knights. The victory continues a trend for the Capers in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.

Finn Connolly made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maxwell Hayward, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Cape Elizabeth's record is now 10-4. As for Poland, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Looking ahead, Cape Elizabeth will head out to square off against Freeport at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Poland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
