Basketball Recap: Encina Comes Up Short

Encina lost against Sacramento Waldorf back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Encina Bulldogs had to suffer through a 59-29 loss at the hands of the Sacramento Waldorf Waves. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.

When it comes to explaining why Encina lost, don't look at Elise Brandon. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 boards. That was a full 96.6% of Encina's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Ojehi Benito Oserogho was another key player, putting up a point and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Encina smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Sacramento Waldorf's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aubrey Payne, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 16 points along with five assists and five steals. Payne is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Malena, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Encina's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Sacramento Waldorf, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Encina will venture away from home to challenge Forest Lake Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sacramento Waldorf, they will host Victory Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Victory Christian has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with five straight defeats, while Sacramento Waldorf will come in with four straight wins.
