Brentwood is a perfect 3-0 against Georgia Military College since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Brentwood War Eagles will challenge the Georgia Military College Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Brentwood earned a 9-4 win over Glascock County. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the War Eagles.
Riley Helton made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Helton was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Diaz, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Grady Boutelle, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Georgia Military College waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victor by an 18-1 margin over Hancock Central. The game marked Georgia Military College's most dominant victory of the season so far.
Like Brentwood, Georgia Military College also got a great game from a two-way player: Nate Webster. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Webster was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Landon Beckler was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Hunter Langford also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Georgia Military College always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .793. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Georgia Military College pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 runs over those games. As for Brentwood, their record is now 2-0.
Brentwood took their victory against Georgia Military College in their previous meeting last Thursday by a conclusive 17-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brentwood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
