North Bend Central took an eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Blue River, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Blue River on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against Blue River back in August, they had to take a 8-0 defeat.
Emma Rangeloff made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha Cummings, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Pyper Daugherty was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
The win got North Bend Central back to even at 6-6. As for Blue River, they moved to 11-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Bend Central will challenge Wayne on Monday. As for Blue River, they will host Fillmore Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
